Remarks by Mr. Ke Yousheng on Implementation of UN 2030 Agenda at the 8th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development
2021/03/25

Dear Chair,

Ladies and gentlemen,

At present, the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading globally, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is facing the risk of “setback”. All parties in the Asia-Pacific should strengthen their confidence and determination, strengthen unity and cooperation, and take the opportunity of advancing the United Nations “Decade of Action” for sustainable development to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieve a sustainable, inclusive and resilient post-pandemic recovery in the this region.

First, to uphold multilateralism and work together to meet challenges. The practice of the global fight against the pandemic shows that human society is a community with a shared future, solidarity and cooperation are the only choices for all parties to deal with global challenges. All parties in the Asia-Pacific should take a clear-cut stance against unilateralism and protectionism in all forms, firmly defend multilateralism, maintain the international system with the United Nations as the core, maintain the international order based on international law, and jointly respond to global challenges such as conflict, poverty, and pandemics.

Second, persist in openness and inclusiveness, and deepen regional cooperation. All parties in the Asia-Pacific should persist in building an open world economy and support the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core. Deeply implement regional free trade arrangements such as the Asia-Pacific Paperless Trade Facilitation Framework Agreement, the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, deepen regional economic integration, and guide economic globalization toward a more open, inclusive, and universal Development in the direction of benefit, balance and win-win.

Third, adhere to connectivity and unleash the potential of growth . All parties in the Asia-Pacific should give full play to the active role of the Asia-Pacific Expressway Network, Trans-Asian Railway, Asia-Pacific Dry Port Agreement, Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Initiative and other regional cooperation agreements, deepen the connectivity of hardware, software and personnel mobility, and ensure global and regional supply chain is smooth and stable. China is willing to work with all parties to jointly build the “Belt and Road” with high quality and inject strong impetus to the recovery of the Asia-Pacific and world economies.

Fourth, adhere to the development orientation and increase investment in development. Development is the master key to solving all problems, and countries should be respected for choosing development paths that suit their national conditions. All parties should strengthen North-South, South-South and tripartite cooperation to promote common development and prosperity. Persist in green and low-carbon development, promote a green economy, and jointly respond to climate change to build a clean and beautiful world.

Ladies and gentlemen,

China has always adhered to the people-centered development philosophy, practiced the development concept of "innovation, coordination, green, openness, and sharing", comprehensively promoted the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and made significant progress. Last month, President Xi Jinping solemnly declared that China has achieved a comprehensive victory in the fight against poverty. Since 2012, 98.99 million rural poor people under the current poverty standards have all been lifted out, completing the hard task of eradicating absolute poverty. China completed the poverty reduction goal of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule, creating a miracle in the history of human social development.

At the same time, China is still the largest developing country in the world, and development remains our top priority. China will continue to adhere to people-centered philosophy, based on the new development stage, implement new development concepts, actively build a new development pattern, promote social equity, enhance people's livelihood and welfare, and continue to meet people's yearning for a better life. China firmly believes that “lucid water and lush mountains are invaluable assets", will accelerate the promotion of a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and strive to achieve the goal of carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2060.

China is willing to work with all parties in the Asia-Pacific to take concrete actions to promote sustainable development and post-pandemic recovery in the region, and jointly build an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future that is open and inclusive, innovative growth, connectivity, and win-win cooperation, and jointly create a bright future of prosperity and stability in the Asia-Pacific .

Thank you.
